You can read sociallistener.in without an account. If you create an account, we keep the name and email you type, the stories you save, and the categories you follow.

When a published story loads, we add one to its read count. We also store a short code for that day so the desk can see how many visits a story had. The code is not your name, and we do not keep your address from the internet.

A cookie named sl_session remembers that you are signed in, so you do not have to type your password on every page. A cookie named sl_seen remembers which lead story you already saw, so the front page can show a different one next time.

You can delete your account from the account page. That removes the sign-in, the saves, and the follows.

If you leave an email for the letter, it is stored as pending until the desk confirms it. We also store which page the form was on, such as the home page, the footer, or the end of an article. That is kept with the email on this site. It is not the address of another site you came from, and it is not a tracker. A confirmed address can be included when an article is published. You can take it off from the link in a letter, or by writing to the address below. Until a mailbox is connected, the address is kept and nothing is sent.

Downloading a document asks for your name, email, organisation, role, and why you want it. That request is kept on the desk so the editor can see who asked. It is not added to the letter unless you also use the letter form.
